Do privacy laws really mean that you can't have your own data?

But, the manufacturer of a medical device you use for a health condition can sell your data for commercial benefit? Of course, I think the answer is a resounding no, but I believe we will have to fight to make it so.

Here is an interesting piece in the Wall Street Journal (the article was not behind the paywall as of 12/3/2012) about this. Let me know what you think. I'm interested in whether anyone has legislation in progress to address this. If so, we need to support it. If not, we need to get after it.
